Roadtrip edition: Great Northern (U.S. 2)
Burlington, VT
This roadtrip runs the top border of the U.S. from Bangor, Maine to Seattle, Washington. There is a segment that crosses over into Canada: Ontario and Quebec. However, since this series focuses on American roadtrips, we skip that portion. You can do a part of this roadtrip, fly between the Canadian segments, take a long detour around the lakes, or drive all of it by visiting beautiful cities in Canada.

WHAT TO EAT? Apple Pie from Pie Society
Apples are big business in Vermont. Apple cider, cider doughnuts, apple cake with brown sugar apples, pork with apple relish, apple and gorgonzola salad…the Bubba Gump list goes on.
Check out Pie Society for both savory and sweet pies of all kinds made fresh daily. Pies are on rotation so you may or may not be able to get an apple pie, depending on the week. For example, this week’s featured pies (at time of writing) include: Buffalo Chicken Pot Pie, Chickpeas Korma Pie, Key Lime Pie, and Raspberry Peach Pie. Apple cinnamon pie is one of their top pies on rotation, so chances are good especially in the fall that you’ll be able to pick one up.
Each pie is sourced from local ingredients and uses simple, high-quality ingredients like organic sugar, local maple and honey, farm-fresh vegetables and healthy proteins.

REBOOT! RECIPE: Apple Pie
Apples are high in important nutrients and are full of flavor, which means they may require less sugar than other fillings.
One of those ingredients is pectin, which is a soluble fiber that may help relieve constipation, lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, improve blood sugars, and promote a healthy weight.
Here is a recipe for a healthier apple pie that uses a whole wheat crust:
