National Sunday Supper Day – Second Sunday of January

Every day is a national (insert word here) day. This series looks at holidays and how to make it a healthy celebration!

HISTORY OF THE HOLIDAY

The founder of National Sunday Supper Day, Isabel Laessig, started the movement in 2012 as a way to stay close to her oldest daughter, who had left home for college. She ended up registering the holiday as a national holiday.

Sunday Supper Day inspires people to return to the traditional value of shared meals and family times. As we know, life can get really busy and its hard to sit down and share a meal with family. This is why National Sunday Supper Day is important. Isabel’s hope is that one shared meal a week will lead to more of them.

SO WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUPPER AND DINNER?

The distinction is that dinner is the main meal of the day, while supper is an evening meal.

TYPES OF SUPPER?

When I think of Sunday Supper, I think of comfort food: baked chicken, mashed potatoes, pot roast, lasagna, etc. It doesn’t have to be though, really all that is needed is good food, laughter, and love. Visit this website for all kinds of great meal ideas: https://sundaysuppermovement.com/

CHICKEN CHILI

Here is one recipe to try that is lower in calories and fat! Get the family involved in the process too. My husband often makes rice, chops onion, sets the table, or grates cheese to help out.
