Spotlight On: Triceps Brachii

✨️Spotlight On: Triceps Brachii

A series focusing on one major body part. Today, we look at Triceps!

ANATOMY

Your triceps are broken into 3 main sections (hence the “tri” in triceps): lateral (outside of your arm), long (rear of your arm), and medial (rear of your arm near elbow).

Muscles often work by opposing other muscles. In this case, the opposing muscles (or antagonists) are the biceps. Your biceps primarily work by bringing your forearm closer to your body (flexion), while the triceps primarily work to extend your forearm away (arm extension).

EXERCISE PLAN

  • You’ll want to incorporate triceps exercises in your exercise plan. For a split, focused plan (meaning triceps would be a primary exercise focus that day), I would normally do at least three exercises: one for each part of the triceps.
  • In a push-pull workout plan, triceps would be considered a push muscle group.
  • Additionally, change up the exercises each time you work triceps (for example, each week) so that you are targeting your muscle group in different ways.
